The 4400 are a group of exactly four thousand, four hundred people who were deposited in the Cascade Range foothills near Mount Rainier in Washington state on August 14, 2004. They are made up of people of all ages, races, and nationalities, yet all share one thing in common -- they all had disappeared at various points starting from 1946 in a beam of white light. After their return, none have aged, all are disoriented, and they remember nothing between the time of their disappearance and their return. To handle this phenomenon, the U.S. government formed an agency called the National Threat Assessment Command (NTAC) within the Department of Homeland Security specifically to deal with the 4400. These 4,400 were not abducted by extraterrestrials as many thought, but instead by people from Earth's distant future, and they were returned in order to prevent some sort of catastrophe. While in the future, they were altered to produce a new neurotransmitter that had been dubbed "promicin." This neurotransmitter gives the 4400 their paranormal abilities, such as telekinesis, telepathy, precognition, as well as other gifts that are even stranger.
